Program Description

The Minor in Religion deepens students' understanding of a wide range of religious and philosophical traditions that have shaped human experiences across cultures and time periods, to explore the connections between belief systems, cultural practices, and historical events. Through their studies, students will engage with key questions about existence, meaning, ethics, and the role of religious meaning-making in forming both individual identities and worldviews. Students will learn how to critically assess religious and philosophical claims, challenge assumptions, and analyze complex arguments. In addition, students will explore how different religious and cultural practices have been used to creatively and critically address important real-world issues—both historical and contemporary—such as justice, the meaning of life, social conflict, inequality, environmental challenges, and the nature of the divine
