ADVISING AND ORIENTATION

As a means of easing the transition to College life, Catawba College requires all first- time freshmen and transfer students to participate in an orientation session prior to the semester in which they first enroll. First-time freshman and transfer students with fewer than 18 semester hours earned will enroll their first semester in First Year Seminar (GEN 1200), a three semester-hour course designed as an introduction to the liberal arts and the skills necessary to succeed in college.

The seminar professor will serve as the student’s academic advisor throughout the first semester. At the time the student declares a major, a Major Advisor is assigned to assist the student in scheduling courses required for the major and in meeting all the requirements for graduation.
