Program Description
The Women's and Gender Studies (WGS) minor at Catawba College will offer students an interdisciplinary exploration of how gender, sexuality, race, class, and other identities shape people’s opportunities and experiences, both positive and negative, within structures of power. We teach our students to examine how sociology, psychology, religion, philosophy, history, and culture shape experiences on individual, group, and societal levels. By examining feminist and intersectional perspectives across a number of different disciplines, students will explore histories of resistance, looking at how movements for equality have worked to disrupt unjust systems and create spaces for empowerment. Students will gain the tools to identify how power is enacted in ways that influence access to resources and opportunities. Students will be able to apply their knowledge to building a more equitable and just society for all.
